Designer of the Week: Consuelo Castiglioni

I'm obsessed with Marni at the moment, although it's a pretty famous brand in the fashion world, and specially after their collaboration with H&M last year for both Men and Womenswear, I sort of started reading more about them and the do make pretty awesome crafted garments and accessories.

Consuelo Castiglioni is part chilean but she was raised in Lugano, Switzerland (the Italian part of the country). She has not got any training or education in fashion but since her husband used to supplied fur for high end, luxury fashion labels, she was still connected to that world.

This is how, in 1994 she presented her first collection of fur which she named Marni and slowly started introducing ready-to-wear garments. Today, the brand is not known for their use of fur but for their eclectic patterns, simple lines, avant-garde craft methods and hippy (almost 70s) mood.

Here I leave a few photos of their last collection (S/S 2013)

The brand hasn't stopped growing since it was established, in 2005 Marni launched their eyewear collection, in 2007 the Menswear range, in 2011 they announced their collaboration with H&M for spring 2012 and last year they presented their first fragrance and Marni kids.

I think she's a very cool dude. Here's a quote by her and a photo the woman herself.

“I design what I like to wear myself. It's how I started and how I continue to work. I do not have a muse, other than different elements that I like.”

SALUD!
